Um dia quando estava no céu ao amanhecer, conheceu Guaraci, o sol e apaixonou-se por ele.
Fazia tudo para ganhar o seu amor e admiração exibindo o seu brilho prateado bem forte nas manhãs que o encontrava. Finalmente Jaci conseguiu chamar a atenção de Guaraci que passou a admirá-la por sua beleza. Passaram a namorar. Mas a felicidade durou pouco. Não poderiam jamais se casar. Tupã o deus supremo, até deixava os dois se encontrarem. Mas viverem juntos, jamais. Um pertencia à noite o outro ao dia. Jaci chorou muito ao saber que nunca casaria
com seu amado. E chorou, chorou tanto que as suas lágrimas foram enchendo o rio que rasga o continente. Este rio tornou-se o maior rio em
volume d'água do mundo. É o Amazonas. Ele é prova do amor que a lua tem para com o sol. Suas águas são lágrimas. Por isso até hoje Jaci teima em ficar ao lado de Guaraci durante o dia. É para matar as saudades do seu amor.
In the beginning of the world everything happened. The animals spoke with the men, understood them and the men also talked to them. The men loved their women which were very affectionate and amiable with their husbands. The stars already were in the high making more beautiful the sky at night and being source of inspiration for the lovers that used to make declarations of love to their aboriginal boyfriends. The stars and the moon shone all night. Jaci, the moon, was a loner voyager in the sky. She felt so lonely at night and wished to have a boyfriend.
One day when the moon was in the sky at dusk she knew Guaraci, the sun. And she fell in love with him. She, Jaci, made everything to get the love and admiration of Guaraci, the sun. She showed the strong silver-plated brightness power in the mornings when she met him. Finally Jaci obtained the attention of Guaraci, and he started to admire her beauty. They fell in love. But the happiness lasted little. They could never marry. Tupã the supreme god, even left the two side by side once in a while. But they could never live together. One belonged to the night and the other belonged to the day. Jaci cried so much when she knew that she could never marry her beloved one. She cried and cried so much that her tears had been fulling the river that cross almost the whole continent. This river became the biggest river in volume of water in the world. It is the Amazon river. It is the pledge of love that the moon made to the sun. The Amazon's waters are tears. Therefore till today Jaci keeps on being to the side of Guaraci during the day. She is trying not to miss him so much.
